I am currently a senior undergraduate student pursuing degrees in English and German Secondary Education. I recently completed an ESL Teaching Practicum with Professor Laura Vander Broek, during which I taught English to a recently resettled refugee family of 8 Somali women - a mother and her 7 daughters. I discovered and implemented innovative ways to use technology to build both oral proficiency and literacy in English among my learners. This practicum subsequently led to the research internship that I currently have at Samaritas, a refugee resettlement agency in Grand Rapids. Further, I am a collegiate-athlete on the Women's Cross Country and Track teams at Grand Valley State University and am also a Fulbright finalist for an English Teaching Assistantship in Germany for the 2017-2018 school year.
